Marcela is a bunny different from the other inhabitants of her community. Not only because of her crooked eye, which is hidden behind dark glasses, but also because she doesn’t conform to the established norms, which is why one day she escapes. Her next destination is a village of black-and-white bunnies, where everything works in reverse compared to her place of origin. In the end, “everything happened in reverse, but it was all the same: some drank clean water, others drank dirty water, some ate good grass, others ate dry herbs, some stepped on others while others were stepped on,” Marcela reflects bitterly. This fable, written in 1979, addresses issues like education in equality, respect for differences, tolerance, and coexistence among cultures, races, and beliefs. Its protagonist is rebellious, daring, and unconventional; she rejects injustices and seeks happiness, true to her ideals.
